About this Learning Opportunity

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) created by Gay Su Pinnell and Irene Fountas is a small-group, supplementary intervention program created to support the lowest achieving students. The goal of this intervention resource is to bring students to grade level achievement in reading. During this session, you will:

  • explore the components of the system
  • learn about and view the lesson structure of LLI lessons
  • practice assessing readers and discover how to use this information to inform teaching

By using effective reading skills and strategies, students construct meaning and develop thoughtful and critical interpretations of a variety of texts (English Language Arts Program of Studies K-9, 2000).

This session will support implementation of English Language Arts by providing explicit instruction, modeling and practice of effective strategies for reading, writing, and phonics/word study.

This session will focus primarily on the K-2 systems, however there will information shared about the Grade 3 and up systems.

This learning opportunity is being provided through funding from Alberta Education.
