About this Learning Opportunity

Elder Robert Cardinal of the Enoch Cree Nation will share teachings to help you understand traditional protocol, values and customs; finding harmony with all that is around us and creating a balance for ourselves within the Western and Aboriginal traditions. You will explore enhancing personal growth by pursuing the values of honour, respect, and trust through a holistic view of life. No one will be asked to journey where they do not want to go, and an opportunity will be provided for people to participate in a traditional sweat lodge in the afternoon.

The Alberta Social Studies program of studies states that an understanding of Canada requires an understanding of Aboriginal perspectives and Aboriginal experiences. It goes on to point out the essential role of Elders in Aboriginal experiences. The workshop will be presented on the Enoch First Nation Reserve.

You are asked to meet at the River Cree Marriott Hotel Lobby at 8:45 a.m. You will then be led to Elder Robert Cardinal's Lodge on the reserve, where the session will take place. Maps will be provided closer to session date and you are asked to dress for indoor and outdoor activities. Specific information about the sweat lodge (dress, protocols etc) will be provided upon registration.

This learning opportunity is being provided through funding from Alberta Education.
